About Dental Bridges
A bridge is two or more crowns fused to one or more false teeth that are used to replace missing teeth. While a bridge is a good option to replace a tooth, generally using a dental implant to replace missing teeth is a better solution. However, not all patients are candidates for dental implants. Therefore, we are still thankful to have dental bridges as restorative options. They are used in a similar way to crowns and similar materials are used for these restorations.
What to Expect When You Undergo a Dental Bridge Procedure
Similar to having a dental crown installed, a dental bridge will require two appointments. Your first appointment will involve:
- Applying a local anesthetic to the area
- Taking impressions of the mouth
- Analyzing the shade of your teeth to ensure a proper finished bridge match
- Preparing the teeth for the bridge
Our office works with a quality dental lab to ensure the best possible bridge. Impressions taken at your first appointment will be sent to the lab to be fabricated and returned to us. At your second appointment, we will fit the bridge into your mouth and ensure the best possible fit.
For patients who are not good candidates for dental implants, a dental bridge can be a helpful option to restore your teeth to their natural form and function.
