Cleaning and Consultation

Not only does good oral hygiene keep your teeth clean and healthy, but it is also essential to your overall health. Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental problems. It can also exacerbate more serious medical problems, including gum disease, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and kidney disease.

That’s why dentists and hygienists recommend that teeth be cleaned professionally twice a year. Teeth cleaning is the removal of dental plaque and tartar in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis and gum disease. The average dental cleaning is a routine procedure that takes about an hour.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing, also known as a deep cleaning, is typically performed on patients with gum disease and is a procedure that goes beyond the cleaning you receive with your scheduled checkups. When gum disease occurs, it can cause excessive buildup of plaque and tartar, which can worsen the disease. Scaling and root planing is a way to deep clean your teeth by removing plaque and tartar lurking below the gumline. This removes bacteria and other microorganisms that cause damage to your teeth, gums and mouth.

Scaling and root planing can feel a bit uncomfortable and can often involve local anesthetic to numb the area. Soreness and sensitivity is common a few days following the procedure. To properly treat gum disease, additional visits may be required.

Fillings

When teeth have been damaged by decay, fillings are a way to restore them back to their proper look and function. You can learn more about fillings at Heck Family Dentistry by clicking here.

Tooth Extractions

In some cases, tooth damage may be extreme enough that it may be necessary to extract the tooth to maintain optimum oral health. Broken, cracked or extensively decayed teeth, teeth associated with advanced stages of periodontal disease, and teeth that are poorly positioned or non-functional may need to be removed. In most cases, we will also recommend a replacement for the extracted tooth. While extractions may sound like a scary option, Heck Family Dentistry will ensure your visit is as comfortable as possible. Our skilled dentists and technicians will take care of you from start to finish and ensure that your oral health is completely restored! Learn more about extraction procedures by clicking here.

X-Rays

It is recommended that you get X-Rays of your teeth on a yearly basis. This ensures that any problems and cavities are caught early and that treatment can be recommended quickly to prevent additional damage to your oral health.
